Kim Nam Gil Turns Down The Pirates Sequel

The Pirates: Goblin’s Flag” (working title) will be taking time to reorganize as several actors from the original cast of the first movie have decided not to appear in the sequel.

Despite Yoo Hae Jin turning down the offer to appear in the sequel, things were running smoothly with Lee Kwang Soo joining the cast. After reports stated that investment companies temporarily halted production once Kim Nam Gil decided not to feature in the film, a source from Lotte Entertainment responded, “It’s true that Kim Nam Gil, who starred in ‘The Pirates,’ turned down appearing in the sequel. There is no change to Lee Kwang Soo and Son Ye Jin being cast. Production has not been suspended. We are planning to start filming after [a time of] reorganization.”

“The Pirates,” released in 2014, had great box office success, surpassing 8.6 million admissions. The film is about pirates searching for the royal seal of the Chosun dynasty that was swallowed by a whale ghost. With the great success of the first movie, there were high hopes for the sequel as well.

Lotte Entertainment, which was the film investment and distribution company for “The Pirates,” also decided to undertake the sequel. At the 24th Busan International Film Festival held on October 2018, Lotte Entertainment even announced the sequel as one of the films they will be premiering in 2019, raising attention for the movie. Fans of the first movie were excited for the announcement that the sequel is to be made five years after the premiere of the first film.

I was heartbroken when the news broke yesterday about Nam-Gil oppa not returning to the sequel. But it makes senses as he needs to recuperate from The Fiery Priest, which he suffered so many injuries from and didn’t take an ounce of time off. Poor guy. I would rather have him take a nice long vacation and come back fully recovered. Hopefully, his management will talk so sense into him. At times, he can be too professional, ignoring his own physical being. I love seeing his face when he does those high demanding stunts, but his health is more important. 😢

I wonder if Son Ye Jin(SYJ) will even accept now?! It would be so weird to see her character (Yeo-wol) to be wooed by some new guy and the bandit team with a new leader. How are they going to explain this??? Also, they better not replace Jang Sa-Jung with another actor?! 😠

Best scenario is that SYJ doesn’t, they can then wait until Nam-Gil oppa recovers and reconsiders. Maybe at that time Yoo Hae-Jin will be free too. I like Lee Kwang Soo and all, but he ain’t gonna fit in Hae-Jin ssi’s shoes as Chul-Bong. LOL I am sure all of us do not mind staying put for a little longer so a truly sequel can be made.

Kim Nam Gil – The Pirates (Picspam)

After watching The Pirates (2014), I cannot tell you how much I love this film and needed to fangirl over Kim Nam-Gil oppa. His performance portraying Jang Sa-Jung, the dorky bandit, was outstandingly entertaining along with Yeo-wol (Son Ye-Jin), the amazing pirate captain. The entire cast was equally fabulous, especially the talented Yoo Hae-Jin as Chul-Bong. It was so much fun to watch, I was grinning like a Cheshire cat from beginning to end! :)  I might give the movie another run this weekend. XD

There were some news that a sequel is in development stages…crossing my fingers that Nam-Gil oppa and Ye-Jin ssi will accept their roles again. It would just would not be the same without them.

Pirates has similar elements and pays tribute to Pirates of the Caribbean, which is another fave of mine. I am not going to discuss anything specific at this time, except for Jang Sa-Jung. hehe

Why I adore Jang Sa-Jung?

Jang appears to be shameless, clumsy, bumbling, and loony on the exterior. Though, he is actually a righteous bad-ass who is loyal and kindhearted. We can see why Yeo-wol was captivated by his quirky charms. He can be quite romantic and cute at times. Who can resist a long-haired, attractive swordman with some moves?!

Sister’s Slam Dunk S2 (K-Variety)

Wow, 2019 has been flying by so quickly! It’s already April and summer will be around the corner soon.

Anyone into Korean variety shows? I have grown fond of Sister’s Slam Dunk Season II, especially its cast members and how much effort they used to transform themselves into a girls group/band. The show focused on producing a group of diverse celebrities into one-time ensemble.

I adored Hong Jin-Young, Kim Sook and Kang Ye-won, as well as, the other members, Hong Jin-kyung, Han Chae-young, Minzy and Jeon So-mi. I love their chemistry, how they bonded and cherished each other even though they were so different from one another, personality and experience-wise.

Minzy and So-mi are quite well-known in K-Pop along Hong Jin-Young (professional singers), but they were so understanding and patient toward their Unnies. Keeping everything real was another aspect that made the show wonderful, especially when they shared stories of their struggles and dreams. Though, the show has ended, I am sure they will remain friends for a long time.

I was truly proud and happy for the Unnies when their Music Bank performance was a success and their song dominated the music charts on the first day of release. I emphasize again that not all of them are professional musicians and they did their very best to achieve the project’s goal.

Hopefully, they will have a third season one day with a few of the same members. In the meantime, please enjoy their music and performance below, as well as, the full season of the show on Viki and Youtube.

Picspam – Wok of Love

Finished watching Wok of Love, which was entertaining, light-hearted, and hilarious. Highly recommended for a good laugh and the food-porn, nothing serious since it does have a talking horse.

Jang Hyuk (Doo Chil Sung) portrays a gangster, loan-shark who was adorable and dorky when it comes to his unrequited love for Jung Ryeo Won (Dan Sae Woo). I knew immediately that the second lead syndrome was gonna kick-in during the beginning of the series when Sae Woo told him off the bat, there wasn’t gonna be any chances between them. You can also tell that she only has eyes for Seo Poong (main lead portrayed by Lee Jun Ho). I don’t have anything against him, but we’re talking about Jang Hyuk here, who could resist. lol He does do it in a weird Chil Sung style, saying since it was only one-side, he can love as much as he wants. hehe

Here’s some picspam from the series:
