New layout for September

What do you think? It’s a new WordPress theme offered by Graph Paper Press, titled Modularity Lite. I’m especially fond of the navigation menu at the top and slideshow header feature as I’ve always wanted to display multiple images. The theme is certainly not perfect, had been altering the stylesheet to modify the comment listings and smiley alignment for a few hours now, but it does provide a cleaner look. My playing around with the CSS continues so don’t be alerted if something becomes broken, I promise it will be resolved shortly.

Since today is Arashi’s 11th year anniversary, the header features several photos taken from the October 2010 issue of Act Mini. Although, it’s simple, the boys did displayed playful, dorky and cute expressions. Just looking at that photoshoot brings a smile ne.

In celebration of Jun-kun’s 27th birthday, my new layout features our beloved Ouji-sama. I simply love this photo, which was exhibited within the August 2010 issue of the Grazia magazine. Doesn’t his gorgeous smile just melt your heart away? I’m sure most of us have dreamed of sharing a candlelight dinner…maybe some wine and gourmet dishes prepared by him ne?! XO

A group of my friends started playing around with haikus today, just for the fun of it. I decided to give it a stab and dedicate one to Jun-kun:

What do you think? I know, mine is not sophisticated. It’s been ages since I’ve written these, but the process was fun and will probably create a few more. If you have one for Jun, please do share.

Happy April, New Layout

In celebration of spring (I know I’m a few days late :p ), I bring forth a new layout with our beloved Riida. The photo is from the newest issue of TVnavi (May 2010), doesn’t Ohno-chan looks so stylish and sharp? I’m sure most of you would agree that he is also quite smexy here. BTW I had such a hard time choosing which one to use, this series had so many gorgeous shoots. I know that red is not his color, but it matches well with the different blends of gray along with the white and black. I hope you like it as much as I did making it.

I finally had some time over the weekend to finish the side header and code the stylesheet to my liking. Though, it took two weeks (on and off) to do complete, it was worth it.

Since it’s going to be Valentine’s Day in a few days, Jun-kun was my ultimate choice…hehe. The photo is one of many from the October 2009 issue of Dazed & Confused Japan. I absolutely adore this set, the colors are so pretty with the different shades of purple, several blends of blue and tads of reddish-orange. Jun-kun is stunning as ever, can he be anymore charming?! ^^ …and yes, I’m very Jun-biased…hehe.

Oh, do let me know if any issues occurs when viewing the new layout. I will then need to tinker with it, many thanks! ^^

WordPress- Sender Email ID does not work properly on HostMonster

As many of you know that I had changed my hosting provider to HostMonster a few months back (it’s been great so far and no complaints). I was doing a little testing after I had installed the WP Thread Comment plugin and found that the sender email does not work properly. Emails received would have username@host.hostmonster.com shown in the header as the sender. Really did not want the recipients of the messages to see that!

I had previously inquired about this issue with support and they had suggested the following solution:

This is because our servers require you (or your script) to use a properly formatted, valid From: header in your email. If the From: header is not formatted correctly, empty or the email address doesn’t exist on our server, the from address will be changed to @.hostmonster.com. To stop this, you must change the script you are using to correctly use a valid From header.

Examples of headers that should work would be:
From: user@domain.com
From:
From: “name”

Examples of headers that will NOT work:
From: “user@domain.com”
From: user @ domain.com

Alternative for PHP Users:
- You can also modify which account should be used when sending out using the mail() function. Inside the local php.ini file, you will find a line of code that looks something like this (around line 601):

sendmail_from = mail@yourdomain.com

Be sure to uncomment this by deleting the ‘;’ before the directive. Also, the account you use must be a valid created account.

The above had worked for my other script so there I went editing php.ini, however, I was far from succeeding. Yes, WordPress is just fussy! :mad:

Sent a lengthy support ticket regarding issue and a response was received within 1/2 hour (customer service is fast here, happy that that). After a few replies (the usual confirmation that the suggested was used and testing on their end), a L2 representative had insisted that the issue was script-based. He indicated that the setting must be changed via WordPress. :?: I had looked high and low through the admin section and did not see such a setting. Unsatisfied and determined, I went off searching and found a wonderful solution. Here it is:

Rather than using

sendmail_from = mail@yourdomain.com

use

sendmail_path = /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i -fusername@domain.com

-f is the command option, followed by the actual email address you would like to use. There are no space between -f and your email address.

Please also be sure that the email addy that you are using already exist on the account, it can be created through your cPanel under the Mail section.

I had also send a little FYI to the support team. Hopefully, they will acknowledge the solution and assist other customers with the same issue rather than blaming it on WordPress.

Upgrading to WordPress 2.7 killed my permalinks

God damn upgrade!!! The process went extremely well, too well to be exact and I knew something was wrong. As soon as I tested the links to my posts and comments, those wonderful 404 Not Found errors had appeared. All of my permalinks went puff!! I was definitely not a happy camper!!

Spent a good part of last evening restoring the files and database and still no success after an hour. Off I went searching for a solution on Google.com and WordPress’ forum, I was quite frustrated by then. Then, something had hit me! Not relying on oh-so-helpful WordPress permalink section, off I went looking for the .htaccess file….

…and there was the answer!! Stupid version 2.7 does not modify the .htaccess for permalinks!! *sigh* Good thing that I am very, very familiar with mod_rewirte. Less than a minute later, my permalink issue was solved.

Here’s the code that was added to .htaccess, the file is found within the directory where the script is installed:

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]

Thumbs up for WP-SpamFree

I despise spam with passion, period! Despite how many tools and filters are used, it will always return. A total of 5 per day is no big deal; 15 to 20 is tolerable, anything beyond is pushing the limit. For those who have comment *bows,* know that CAPTCHA were placed on every single comment form on the site and from behind the scenes, Akismet and another spam filter were at work. Well, that was not the case anymore, I was alerted on Monday that a total of 30 spam messages were awaiting for my approval. *sighs* Off I went search for the next best plugin on the web; found a few, none worked to my standards…. Well, not until WP-SpamFree to be precise.

The WordPress plugin has been installed for four days now, I am extremely happy with its results. It has caught 23 spams to date, none was which had to manually deleted. I believe this will be a keeper, applauses for WP-SpamFree.
