Persona 3, one exciting and fun RPG

Started on Persona 3 about a month, it has been quite enjoyable that I look forward to play time each evening. :D

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 was developed and published by Atlus for the Sony PlayStation 2 console system. It is the third game for the Shin Megami Tensei series and was released in North America mid-August 2007.

The main character portrays a high school senior which had just transfered to Gekkoukan High School. Due to many events which had occurred in the past, the Dark Hour takes place each night, a period which occurs prior to the turning of the next day. Only a selected few remain conscious during this time frame, one being the main character, while the others remain in coffins and unaware of this event.

This is where fun begins, the high school transfers into a huge labyrinthine tower called “Tartarus.” Along comes beasts called “Shadows,” who lurk viciously within the tower, preying on the minds of the conscious. The main character along with the members of the “Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad” (SEES), has taken the duty to battle against phenomena.

Each member possess the potential, which is the ability to summon a Persona to aid his or her in battle. A Persona has unique abilities such as special attacks and healing attributes. To call forth one,  one has to aim and fire a gun-like object called an “Evoker” at his or her head. This has not provide any physical damage to its user, however, emotional stress could be brought forth the Persona.

The game occurs over the course of Japanese school calendar year, which runs from April to mid-July. Daily life revolves attending class, school activities or trips to locations around town. Nights are spending in battle and/or studying and sleep. Activities are used on leveling up one’s ability and skills.

Persona 3 -Artwork

Persona 3 -Artwork

I’m currently playing Persona 3 FES, which is the director’s cut to the game and includes both Persona 3 and its expansion pack — titled The Journey and The Answer, respectively.

Forty plus hours have been played, there has not been an ounce of boredom. Each of the characters have been well developed with their own personalities and abilities. Though, the plot possess typical RPG elements, the dialog had been nicely written — understandable and informative, as well as, witty and humorous at times.  The artwork is also unique and creative, which I have taken a fond of.

With that said, I continue to embark The Journey , hoping to complete the game by the end of the year and begin The Answer after the holidays. There is still three more powerful bosses to defeat and numerous of paths must be open to climb the massive ‘Tartarus,” however, I think I will be able to accomplish it. :D

One Piece – Unlimited Cruise ~ Episode One

I was browsing along and wanted to post some info on this new Wii game, One Piece Unlimited Cruise -- Episode One. Haven’t heard anything about it being released in the US, I highly doubt it will occur since the US sales for Unlimited Adventure were not great. I did enjoyed Unlimited Adventure quite a bit and probably will import this one.

The games appears to be focusing on the Thriller Bark arc and includes the newest crew member, Brooke -- the jolly skeleton. The second episode will be released some time in 2009.

The cover looks great with Oda-sensei’s artwork, much better than the Unlimited Adventure one.

The RPGs world

After completing Final Fantasy X, I have indulged myself into the brilliant world of RPGs. While browsing through my younger brother’s game collection, I felt like a little kid in a candy store. Okay, more like in a bookstore filled with mystery and suspense novels…. Hey, don’t glare at me like that..lol. I am a bookworm and proud of it too! You have to admit that literature is certainly another enchanting world! :P

Anyway, I was quite fascinated by the stories of each of the games and have even compiled a list of games-to-play. The list is lengthy, I say that there are about 20+ games and there is absoluately no way they will be all touched this year. Maybe sometime next year, the completion date can be set, if I am luck. :)

A RPG is more or less an interactive novel where the player can portray roles of the characters and determine their action/outcome based on the set guidelines of the game. It becomes more interesting, as well as, suspenseful since the player does not know what the journey holds. From my brief experience, there are more surprise, twists and turns to the story than expected. I also appreciate the unique characteristics of the heros/heroines and sharing their emotions – happiness, frustrations, and sorrows. Certainly happy that these elements are integrated to provide an ultimate experience.

The following are the ones which I am currently playing:

Tales of the Abyss – Hehe…this was so much fun and still is. Absolutely, love the expressions on each of the interesting characters, especially Luke’s. The dialogue is very well-written and witty. The fast-paced battles are also a plus. Almost finished with this one, have a few more locations to go to before the final boss. Played about 50+ hours so far.

Suikoden V – Love the artwork and an very intriguing plot; believe some of the characters are based on the Chinese novel, Water Margin (水滸傳). I am only 5 hours into the game though.

Final Fantasy X – One great game, One amazing story

final-fantasy-x-one-great-game-one-amazing-story

Honestly, I have never been really a RPG gamer nor a fan of the Final Fantasy franchise. I would classify myself as a casual gamer who knows a thing or two about the video gaming world. Thanks to my avid gamer brother. :D Though, I have enjoyed a few games here and there, however, never has a game provided such an impact.

After playing 40+ hours of Final Fantasy X, the RPG world has truly won my heart. I have to admit that I am a sucker for love stories, but it was not the key factor of my interest. The luscious graphics for PS2, the impressive soundtrack, and the cunning gameplay were what really had captivated me. I would say that this would have provided an ultimate package for any RPG beginner.

It is definitely One emotional and epic journey that you do not want to miss!

I will touch more when I get a chance. Need to get back to some work..hehe…. :D

Okami Artbook – Unique and quite lovely

Truly beautiful, isn’t it? After a two month postponement due its backorder status , the Okami artbook had finally arrived. The prolong wait was certainly worth it, I can dance around in this treasure in no shame. :P The artbook is simply amazing and quite unique! I really don’t believe there are enough words to describe it. As they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

The above are just a smidge of what can be seen in the lovely artbook. It’s still on sale at Amazon for a very reason price, 27 bucks. Definitely a mere price to pay compare to my other fandoms. :P Some additional scans can be found on Imeem.
