As Chun Pui slowly walked over to the olive soft, he dragged his long black coat on the floor while Jessica held onto Nick’s arm tightly. Aunt Lily just stared at her brother, question arose to her mind as she closed the front door.
Jessica in a low tone- “Dad, are you okay?”
Chun Pui just stared at her and looked at the man who stood next to her. In his mind, he kept asking himself, “Is this a dream?”
Nick- “Jessica, he seems a little disoriented. Maybe I should get Bobby over to have a look at him.”
Jessica- “That’s a good idea. Nick, go call Marco and tell him, Dad is with us.” Nick nodded and headed toward the sunshine lited kitchen.
Aunt Lily- “Ah Pui, can you hear us? Please don’t frighten me.”
Chun Pui looked at her- “Yes, what happened?”
The voices from living room had disturbed the quietness of the dining room, Mandy and Damian had just began their breakfast. Mandy was using the knife to cut the pancake into smaller piece while Damian tried to entire pancake into his mouth.
Mandy- “Look at me, this is how you eat.” She took one bit and placed her sliverware down.
Damian- “I like this way. (with his mouth full and placing his forefinger near his mouth) Shh, I hear people.”
They both got out of the redwood chairs, tiptoed over to the door and peeked at the bottom edge.
Jessica- “Dad, you have been in a coma for five years now. I know things have changed, but we’ll be here to help.”
Chun Pui shocked- “Coma, five years! What are you talking about?”
Aunt Lily- “Has it been that long? You had a heart attack, the doctor said there was only a slight chance of getting you back from this coma. But I guess miracles happen, it’s great to have you back.”
Chun Pui looked at her and then at his daughter- “No, you and Nick….”
Jessica- “Dad, we’re married. Please forget the past and start over, please.”
Chun Pui- “No, I will not accept that I have been lying in the hospital for five years and now my daughter is married to that man.”
As Nick walks in, he overheared what he said- ” I’m not that man, I’m Jessica’s husband. I can forget what you did to my family, why can’t you, Dad?”
Chun Pui- “Don’t call me, Dad. You’re nothing, just a cop. I know what I did, but this I will just not accept!.”
Jessica walked over to him- “Dad, please!.”
Aunt Lily- “Ah Pui, you can’t be this stubborn. Listen….”
Chun Pui got up and head toward the door- “No, I’m not going to listen. Good-bye.”
Before Jessica could say anything, she hears the front door slam loudly. Nick rushed out to the streets to catch him, but all he could see are parked cars.
Mandy and Damian rushed into the living room and sat down at the black leather chair.
Mandy- “Mommy, who was that?”
Jessica looked at her and sighed- “Sweetie, do you remember your grandfather?”
Damian- “Grandfather!” He got up and walked himself to the den.
Mandy- “Yes, he always brought presents and took me to the park. Was that him?” She pictured an elderly man with neatly combed hair with strands of grey hair, a polo shirt and a pair of dark-colored pants. He was always smiling and say yes to almost everything she asked for.
Aunt Lily nodded- “But don’t count on him to come back often.” She sighed and headed toward the kitchen.”
Jessica- “Honey, I know you want to see him again, but it’ll take time.”
Mandy just nodded and strolled into the den to look for her brother.
Nick walked into the room, out of breath- “Honey, I just can’t find him. I went up and down the streets and….”
Jessica took out a tissue and helped wipe off the sweat on his forehead- “I know, we did our best. He will come around one of these days.”
The doorbell buzzed twice before Nick opened it, Marco was standing there with a notepad, he had with him two other officers.
Marco had a sliver pair of handcuffs in his right hand-“Nick, where is Chun Pui?”
