Recommended Manga – Arakure (Wild Ones)

arakure

Just started reading Arakure and absolutely love the manga. It’s such a fun read with just the right amount of humor. The romance between the main characters is bittersweet and nicely developed along with the plot. An added bonus is the lovely artwork.

Sachie Wakamura just lost her mother, and her estranged grandfather has shown up to take care of her. The only problem is that Grandpa is the head of a yakuza gang! Sachie tries to continue living her normal life, but she can’t run far since Rakuto, one of the most popular guys in school, is part of her grandfather’s gang and her new protector. Soon, Sachie finds herself falling for her bodyguard. But she’s the granddaughter of Rakuto’s boss, so he can never show his feelings for her. Can Sachie find a way to fit into her new family and seize her chance at romance? From Viz

To Love or Not to Love 2 – Chapter One

tlontl_poster

Today was a beautiful autumn morning, the sky was blue as ever, the wind was light, and the leaves were painted different colors; red, orange, brown, and yellow. Outside a lovely landscaped courtyard, a little blue jay sang a little tone and then flew to a small branch near the freshly painted house with the green door. On the second floor of the house, the door at the end of the hallway slightly opened; a little hand reached for the knock as he stepped out and closed the door quietly behind him.

Damian whispering to himself- “Shh, daddy and mommy are sleeping.” He tiptoed down the hall in his blue pajama with red and yellow cars designs, he stopped at the slightly a jarred door and peeked inside. The room was decorated in light lavender with white flowers as the border.

Damian walked near the bed where a girl no more than ten was sleeping, “Sis, wake up. Wake up!” He pulled the floral comforter down covering his entire body.

Yummy Beef with Udon Noodles

udon

I’ve been wanted to try cooking with udon for a while, especially after watching all of the Japanese umai dishes. I did some searching on Google and found two wonderful recipes from Wegmans and MyRecipes. Click on the links for the full recipes.

After some sauce testing, I decided to combined a few ingredients from both to make the ideal sauce. Here is what was used:

3 Tbsp dark soy sauce
2 Tbsp oyster sauce
3 Tbsp rice wine
1 Tbsp honey
3 Tbsp water

The above makes about a cup or so, just the right amount for a package of udon (approx. 12oz). I usually pick up one when I go to Philly’s Chinatown. However, they are also available in the Asian aisle of your local supermarket, usually a few pennies more. The sauce is extremely delicious and can be for other noodles as well such as pasta, egg noodles, etc. Give it a try sometime, I guarantee that it will be loved!
