(Phil Chang Yu)

Didn’t I tell you that songs by Chang Yu were addictive?! Sharing another masterpiece, 曲終人散, which I had on repeat this morning while driving to work, matches today’s gloomy and rainy weather. I love how each song has its own story and so much emotional is illustrated through Chang Yu – heart-aching, sorrow and affection.

The moment you let him place a ring on your finger
I became aware of the complicated smile on your face
That was originally what I’d promised to give you
Now, I could only make myself invisible within the lively atmosphere

The moment I congratulated you along with the others
Only you knew how many cups of wine I drank
I shouldn’t see you anymore
Even a glimpse more would cause pain
Even if I secretly know that you would turn around again Continue reading “曲終人散 by 張宇 (Phil Chang Yu)”

(Phil Chang Yu)

I came across Phil Chang Yu (張宇) a few days ago while watching an episode of 《谁是大歌神 – The Hidden Singer》 who is a famous Taiwanese singer and composer. Many oldies like me are quite familiar with his songs that were used numerous of Taiwanese TV series and movies. It was a great trip down memory lane and he is still amazing and talented as always. It has been ages since I heard any music produced from the island and quite happy to dig through my CD collection or rather do a search on Youtube. I adore the majority from his discography, but will share one of my favorites today, A soulful ballad with a beautiful melody, the desiring and yearning emotions are skillfully expressed through Chang Yu’s lovely and soothing vocals. The passion, the anguish and the sadness-ness are convened elegantly through its lyrics, which are written by his wife that uses pen name, Xiao Huiwen (十一郎). They are certainly an invincible pair with over 100+ songs under their belt. Also if you’re interested in watching any of the episodes, they are available on China Zhejiang Youtube Channel.

Sitting alone facing the night, fearing that morning would arrive
I’m starting to understand a little that our love should also scatter
You’re just like the past, taking a step forward, preparing to use your hands to envelop me
Your gentleness is actually like a knife, how could I smile in return?

I actually already know that it was the last embrace
The trap you gave me, I couldn’t jump or escape from it Continue reading “一個人的天荒地老 by 張宇 (Phil Chang Yu)”
