Arashi to be MC @ 2009-2010 Johnny’s Countdown

Our boys will be the MC again for the countdown! Ehh!! I’d of thought a sempai group would be doing this and let Arashi be at Kouhaku a bit longer, which is a much grander stage. They certainly deserve it after working so hard to get there. They are going to mecha busy — rushing to the Tokyo Dome after their performance at NHK.

Though, I’m happy and excited, I’m still worried about the boys’ health. I truly hope that they have a good rest afterward.

Arashi – First artist to dominate yearly sales in 4 categories

Oricon’s year-end sales rankings for 2009 are out, and the results confirm that Arashi is the top selling artist of the year. They had the #1 single, the #1 album, the #1 music DVD, and were #1 for the first time in artist total sales. In the 42 years of Oricon’s history, no one else has topped all four categories in the same year.

Counting sales of singles, albums, music DVDs, and music Blu-ray Discs, Arashi grossed a total of more than 14.46 billion yen. At #2 this year was EXILE, who topped the list in 2008 with 19.58 billion yen in total sales.

In single sales, Arashi had the #1, #2, #3, and #5 releases, with “Believe / Kumori Nochi, Kaisei” in front at nearly 657,000 units sold. The only other artists to occupy the top three spots were Pink Lady in 1978 and Hikaru Genji in 1988. Arashi are the first to have four of the top five, as well as the first to hold the top two spots in back-to-back years.

Their “All the BEST! 1999-2009” album sold over 1.43 million copies. In DVD sales, they were #1 and #2 with “5×10 All the BEST! CLIPS 1999-2009” (591,000) and “ARASHI AROUND ASIA 2008 in TOKYO” (428,000).

More complete ranking lists are available on the Oricon website.

OMEDETOU ARASHI!!!!

*throws confetti and cheers like a maniac*

So damn proud of the boys and certainly well deserved! I’m truly happy for them and never get bored of wonderful news like this.

With this merit, they should be entitled a vacation paid by the Jimusho. Our boys qualified for good well-rested one  , they have been working non-stop for so long now. Maybe they can go to Hawaii for a PV or something and then stay there for a holiday. Just my two cents.

Arashi – Saigo no Yakusoku Press Conference

The press conference for the drama special was held today.

I’m quite excited to see the additional cast for the special. The ones present at the conference were Kuroki Meisa, Fujiki Naohito, Otsuka Nene and Tsugawa Masahiko. The others include Kitamura Yukiya and Kosakai Kazuki (found this info on D-Addict). It’s such a strong cast, ne! I’ve seen most of the others works and am delighted to see that Arashi will be interacting with them.

Kyaa~~ It was also announced that the themesong will be sang by our boys, its title is Sora Tataku/ High Sky.

Arashi is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and now for the first time in 10 years they will all appear in the same drama. They recently attended the press conference of the upcoming drama ‘最後の約束 / Saigo no Yakusoku [lit. ‘Last Promise’]’. Since it’s been a while since they last acted together in the same drama, Matsumoto Jun said he was savoring the experience. “It is a whole new experience to see all five of us inside the same dressing room for a drama.” Ohno Satoshi also said he was enjoying the novel situation. “If feels kind of strange. I can’t wait to see it on TV.” The main soundtrack ‘空高く / Sora Takaku [lit. ‘Sky High’]’ performed by Arashi was especially written for the drama.
The main focus of the drama is the bonds shared between people. The Arashi members play the roles of 5 unrelated men who just happen to be inside a building that is taken over by criminals. The serious suspense drama shows the changing relationships among the 5 men and other people left stranded inside the building. The last time the members all appeared together was in the 1999 drama ‘Vの嵐 / V no Arashi’. Ninomiya Kazunari commented “I’m happy that we are getting a chance to create something together.” Sakurai Sho also sounded excited. “It was a bit funny seeing the members each developing their roles right beside me.” Aiba Masaki was asked the highlight of the drama. “This is a realistic drama about 5 men trapped inside a building, and it also has some aspects of fantasy in it too.” Since it wasn’t exactly the serious comment everybody had been expecting, it caught both the cast and staff off-guard. Matsumoto summarily dismissed Aiba’s claims and made everyone laugh. “There are absolutely no elements of fantasy! It’s a fast paced drama, and you can’t afford to miss any of the scenes. All the characters have different reasons for being in the building.” The New Year special drama ‘最後の約束 / Saigo no Yakusoku’ will be broadcast on January 9th.
