The return of Gokusen, more Shinkumi

This year’s 13th issue of Shueisha’s You magazine has announced on Monday that Kozueko Morimoto’s Gokusen high school comedy manga will return in the next two issues, which will ship on July 1 and 15. Morimoto had ended the manga in 2007 after seven years, but she is revisiting the story to mark the July 11 opening of Gokusen the Movie. The movie will serve as the theatrical finale to the three live-action television drama series based on the manga. The upcoming two-part manga side story will center on Kumiko “Yankumi” Yamaguchi — the high school teacher with yakuza ties — and her student Shin Sawada. ~ From ANN

Kyaaa~~~ I cannot tell you how excited and happy I am, Morimoto-sensei! Sawada-kun and Yankumi, such long awaited chapters! Hopefully, their romantic starts to blossom and fill the void from the movie (yes, I’m still a bit disappointed ). Just cannot wait for the first chapter to be released, July is definitely going to be one wonderful month!

Ming Yue Guang – Ma Shang You and Zhang Yao

明月光 (Moonlight) is such a beautiful song; the vocals are extremely soothing along with its calming composition. I also had noticed that the first four lines had incorporated 静夜思, an infamous poem written by 李白 – Chinese poet from Tang Dynasty.

床前明月光,疑是地上霜。
舉頭望明月,低頭思故鄉。

I believe it is the themesong for Chinese drama, 大人物 starring Nicholas Tse and Angelina Lee. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Lyrics:

Ninomiya Kazunari plays killer in new butai

This is such a brilliant combo, Nino and the play version of Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train. I love both especially suspenseful thrillers and envy all that are able to see it. Nino as the devilish Bruno with a mother complex is such a luscious role. Hopefully, a DVD will be released, will definitely buy it!!

Arashi’s Kazunari Ninomiya will be performing in his first stage play in four years. He has been given the starring role in “Strangers on a Train” (“Mishiranu Joukyaku”), opening this summer.

The play is based on the popular novel of the same name, which was turned into a film by Alfred Hitchcock in 1951. The suspenseful story tells of a wealthy young man named Bruno who happens to meet an up-and-coming architect named Guy during a train ride. They each have their own difficult personal circumstances, and Bruno proposes that they “exchange” murders – Bruno will kill Guy’s unfaithful wife if Guy kills Bruno’s father.

Robert Allan Ackerman, who has handled several Broadway productions, will produce the play. Ninomiya has been cast as the wild and devilish Bruno, while Kumiko Akiyoshi plays his mother. Shige Uchida is also part of the cast. Coincidentally, Akiyoshi previously played Ninomiya’s mother in the 2003 movie “Ao no Hono,” which also featured Ninomiya as a killer, though under different circumstances.

“Strangers on a Train” is being performed at The Globe Tokyo from July 18 to August 11.
