PC troubles

Well, it has not been a happy week in computer land for me this week. The oh-so-wonderful liquid cooling system had died on me, without any warning, it left me with a fanless PC. Though, liquid cooling is recommended, I am not using this setup again. It’s just too troublesome with the filling with cooling liquid (not cheap either, runs about $20+ per bottle) and cleaning is no easy task.

Fear of overclocking or overheating, I’ve been using my laptop. Not that I would second-rate my durable Dell, I just want my main PC to work. So off I went shopping for new PC fans, found very nice and affordable selection at Newegg.com. I was surprised that the order had arrived in two days, was expecting at a week. Here’s what I got:

  • Antec 761345-75024-0 120mm Blue LED Case Fan – $20
  • Rosewill RCX-Z300 92mm Ball CPU Cooler – $20
  • StarTech FANDRIVE2BK Plastic 5.25″ Drive Bay Hard Drive Cooler – $8

Removal of the old fan and installation was easy and air ventilation was back in place for my little PC. Yep, I thought all of my troubles were resolved…no, drama had just began.

Happy and carefree, my PC ran for about 2 hours and then it had sudden froze. I had concluded that it was one of my programs was taking too much resources, so it was disabled. However, that was not the cause, my PC now reboots by itself without any errors or warning…sigh. Okay, the next thing that came to my mind was to open the PC case, remove all components and reinstall them onto the motherboard (had to remove them previously to remove CPU fan). I was expecting that something was not installed right. PC boots fine and ran for about 2 hours and it froze again….not a happy camper now! >.<

Due to my lack of ideas, I went searching on Google for solutions, could it be malware?? Possibly not, my anti-virus and spyware are always updated, scans usually occurs once a week if I’m not too lazy. :p Well, it doesn’t hurt to have another program scan so I had downloaded Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, SuperAntiMalware and ComboFix. After the triple scans, two trojans and a few malware were found . Guess I was wrong, god damn hidden trojans!! Never trust one or two mal/spyware programs, must scan with three or more! First and second might not recognize the culpit, but third will and fourth might even locate more.

Quite happy now since I have my PC back up and running!! Time to defrag, want it to have the best of health. Only had this PC for about a year now, it has to run at least for another two or three.

Gomen for the rumbling!
