Japan’s top 10 Valentine’s men

Tradition in Japan has it that Valentine’s Day is not quite the romantic day dreamed of in the West, but something of a burden to women who must give giri-choco (obligation chocolates) to all the men in their lives, including work colleagues.

The reward for such efforts? A return on March 14, White Day, when the men reply with (hopefully) even bigger gifts.

But who would the women really like to give their chocolates to? Online marketing group iReport endeavoured to find out.

From a poll of 500 women age 20-30, the top 10 included nine-year-old Seishiro Kato, sports stars Ryo Ishikawa and Ichiro Suzuki. But the list was topped by 42-year-old singer-songwriter Masaharu Fukuyama.

Previously voted to have the “sexiest body,” “sexiest voice” and being the “coolest guy” by local magazine CanCam, Fukuyama was forced to share the number one spot this time with actor Osamu Mukai.

Here is the full top ten:

1= Masaharu Fukuyama
1= Osamu Mukai
3= Sakurai Sho (of boy band Arashi)
4= Miura Haruma
4= Sato Takeru
6= Matsumoto Jun (of boy band Arashi)
7= Tamaki Hiroshi
8= Ichiro Suzuki
9= Ryo Ishikawa
9= Seishiro Kato

I am really not surprised that our beloved Newcaster-san and DoS made it to the list, however, where is Kimura Takuya?! Is the man losing his touch? LOL Seishiro Kato is simply cute while Haruma Miura and Hiroshi Tamaki are quite dreamy ne. XO

Arashi members drawn in Manga Form

The February 3rd issue of the Asahi Shimbun newspaper featured a special collaboration between boy band Arashi and a few manga artists, titled “ARASHI meets MANGA.” The 8-page feature included illustrations of Arashi’s five members, drawn by the artists who did the original works behind some of the dramas and films that they have starred in. Each of the members also gave their thoughts on those works.

The illustrations were drawn by:

* Taiyo Matsumoto (“Tekkon Kinkreet”) – Kazunari Ninomiya
* Chica Umino (“Honey and Clover”) – Sho Sakurai
* Yoko Kamio (“Hana Yori Dango”) – Jun Matsumoto
* Kenji Nagamoto (“Bartender”) – Masaki Aiba
* Fujiko Fujio A (“Kaibutsu-kun”) – Satoshi Ohno

All of them were nicely drawn, however, I am found Jun’s and Sho’s to be best among the five. Also, Matsumoto Taiyou’s art style is very unique and feels very Nino-ish. I would love to get my hands on this, I wonder where it can be purchased.
